Journalist. Thinker. Questioner.
Welcome to my personal website, an opportunity for me to share some of my professional journalistic work and personal musings. I aim to create a better understanding of the world — a mission which has cast me in many different roles: journalist, artist, and media innovator. See more of my work throughout this e-portfolio, ranging from my reporter reel, published written features to more informal blog posts.
About
Samantha Chaney is pursuing a Master's of Science at Columbia University's Graduate School of Journalism. In May 2021, she graduated Summa Cum Laude from Howard University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in broadcast journalism and political science.
Her love for writing and storytelling began at a very early age. She was born and raised in Minneapolis, MN, surrounded by journalists like her father, who has been a broadcast news photographer for 43 years. What began as pure admiration for him and his work ethic later developed into her ability to find and tell stories that impact the lives of others.

As an undergraduate student, she received many awards for her journalistic work, including the White House Correspondents' Association scholarship, two Student Production Awards by the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, and two 2021 NABJ Salute to Excellence Awards. When graduating at the top of her class, she was selected as the department’s best broadcast journalist in the class of 2021.

While reporting as a student journalist for the Howard University News Service, her originally written, shot, produced and edited reporter packages were broadcast on the PBS Affiliate WHUT to 2.5 million viewers in a top 10 Washington metropolitan area.

From 2019 to 2021, she was a news intern in multiple departments at CBS News, including CBS This Morning, the Political Unit, and the CBS Evening News With Norah O’Donnell.

With the skills she has developed, her goal is to become an on-air news reporter and bring concerns of ordinary people and marginalized communities to the forefront.
